MBC conducted a quick-response, 1-day hydrographic survey in California’s Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta for pre-design of a Brackish Water Desalination Facility proposed by the City of Antioch. MBC conducted the hydrographic survey under contract to a local land surveyor to support the City of Antioch’s $10 million grant application to the California Department of Water Resources for the Brackish Water Desalination Facility. River water in the brackish Delta is less salty than seawater and is therefore less expensive to purify and produces less brine as waste. Antioch’s proposed desalination facility will draw brackish river water from the Delta, purify the water via reverse osmosis, and discharge the waste brine back into the Delta though the local wastewater treatment plant outfall. MBC scheduled the 2019 hydrographic survey for the highest tide of the year to ensure 100% mapping coverage of the shallow-water intake site, and MBC expedited delivery of the underwater topographic map to ensure its inclusion in the City’s grant request.
MBC was hired by Psomas to perform a Class 1 hydrographic survey of Irvine Lake to provide an updated bathymetric map.
