From fresh water bioassays to salt water bioassays, MBC’s suite of water services includes toxicity testing, water quality studies, source tracking, and oceanographic studies. MBC’s toxicity laboratory is certified by California’s Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP) to conduct toxicity tests, and has been involved in both laboratory and field toxicity testing work since 1978. Water quality studies include measurements in fresh and salt water environments using moored and in "situ" field instruments. MBC biologists recently designed a study to determine likely sources of bacterial contamination in the eastern Sierras. This study includes weekly collection and bacteriological analysis of water samples, and samples for Molecular Source Tracking (MST). Oceanographic studies have included long-term temperature profiling (thermistor strings), current meter studies with both electromagnetic current meters and Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCPs), and circulation studies .
MBC provided marine biological, water quality and oceanographic assistance to the San Diego County Water Authority as part of a series of Technical Studies for a proposed seawater desalination project at Camp Pendleton.
