MBC provided qualified biologists to conduct marine wildlife observations (MWOs) for two days pre-construction for baseline conditions and for 14 days of pile driving. MBC biologists monitored the Level B harassment zone for the presence of marine mammals or sea turtles. If a marine mammal or sea turtle was observed to enter the designated safety zone, the biologist notified the construction crew to halt pile driving until the animal exited the zone.
In accordance with NPDES permit requirements, MBC conducts ongoing offshore marine monitoring programs for 12 coastal generating stations from San Diego to Ventura Counties.
